$5,800: Bitcoin Price Sets New Record

... no superman, it's the price of cryptocurrencies trading once again at all-time highs...

As of early this morning EST, the highest value ever paid for a set of cryptographic data secured by the bitcoin blockchain is nearly $6,000 – a feat that's all the more impressive when comparing against the performance of other indexes, investables and asset classes.

Yet, while CoinDesk's markets team has certainly been busy (you can already read the news below as well as technical analysis on where the price is heading), what's perhaps notable about this high is its opposition to news out of the technology side of the sector.

As shown by our tech team, major, possibly disruptive, updates are in store for the two largest cryptocurrencies in the coming weeks – with the closest set to occur on ethereum in just days.

Will the forks go as planned? And how will traders react? It's a story to watch – investors may be wise to be prepared accordingly.
